We are not raising boys to dominate; we are empowering them to become responsible men who contribute to a safe, just, and compassionate society.

About Us

Based in Bondo (Siaya County), Best Outcomes Youth Solace (BOYS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering boys and young men through mentorship, education, psychosocial support, skills development and economic empowerment. The organisation promotes positive masculinity, emotional wellbeing, gender equality, respect for women and girls, and responsible leadership, helping boys grow into confident, skilled, responsible and productive members of society.

Problem Statement

In many communities, including Bondo Sub-County, boys grow up facing societal expectations to be strong, self-reliant, dominant and future providers, often without adequate guidance, protection, mentorship and opportunities to develop into responsible, emotionally healthy adults. Their vulnerabilities are frequently overlooked, leaving many exposed to abuse, neglect, exploitation and other social challenges.

Cultural norms that discourage boys from expressing emotions or seeking help often undermine their emotional development, empathy and ability to manage conflict constructively. Poverty, family instability and limited access to education, healthcare and mentorship further expose some boys to school dropout, child labour, substance abuse, crime and other harmful environments.

The rising cases of gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya also highlight the urgent need to rethink how boys are socialised and prepared for adulthood. Harmful expressions of masculinity, aggression, entitlement, poor emotional regulation and disrespect towards women and girls must be addressed early.

Boys need guidance to understand that positive masculinity is founded on responsibility, integrity, empathy, self-discipline, respect and accountability rather than dominance, control or aggression.

Investing in the boychild is not a competition with the girlchild; it is an investment in responsible men, healthier families, safer communities and a more equitable society.

Mission

Our mission is to empower male children by providing them with the necessary support, resources, and opportunities to overcome obstacles and lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Vision

A society where every boy and young man, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to education and healthcare, is protected from violence and exploitation, and has the opportunity to grow personally and professionally into a responsible, valued member of the community.

Objectives

  • Protect: Establish community-level protection systems and raise awareness to prevent violence, abuse and exploitation against boys and young men.
  • Support: Provide comprehensive support, including mentorship, education, psychosocial care and access to essential services, so that boys can overcome obstacles and realise their potential.
  • Empower: Promote skills training, talent development and economic opportunities that uplift vulnerable boys and young men and help them become productive, integrated members of society.

Values

  • Protection: The safety and dignity of every boy come first, and we act quickly when a child is at risk.
  • Respect: We treat every boy, family and partner with dignity, and we teach respect for others, especially women and girls.
  • Acountability: We take responsibility for our actions and teach boys to do the same.
  • Integrity: We are honest, transparent and trustworthy with the boys, families, donors and partners who rely on us.
  • Inclusion: Every boy is welcome regardless of background, ability, religion, ethnicity or circumstance.
  • Compassion: We listen without judgement and make it safe for boys to speak about their struggles.
  • Empowerment: We build skills, confidence and self-belief so boys can shape their own futures.
  • Hard Work and Discipline: We model and encourage perseverance, responsibility and commitment to goals.
  • Hope and Second Chances: No boy is written off. A setback is not the end of his story.
  • Community and Partnership: We succeed together with parents, mentors, schools, leaders and partner organisations.

How Each Pillar Works

  • Boychild Mentorship: Boys are matched with carefully screened adult mentors who guide them over an extended period. Mentors include professionals from many fields, skilled tradespeople, religious and community leaders, sports personalities and other respected members of society.
  • Education Support: Supports boys at risk of dropping out, and helps those who already have find their way back.
  • Mental & Psychosocial Wellbeing: Society often leaves boys with nowhere to take their problems. We encourage them to talk, and we partner with and refer them to qualified counsellors, psychologists, hospitals and other professionals.
  • Skills & Economic Empowerment: Through partnerships with vocational training institutions and other organisations, we work to make sure every participating boy gains at least one practical, employable skill.
  • Protection & Safeguarding: We work to prevent abuse, exploitation, violence, substance abuse and harmful environments, so that every boy can thrive.
  • Sports, Talent & Creative Development: Soccer, athletics, music, arts, debate and other talents give boys a place to shine and belong.
  • Young Men for Community: Volunteerism, civic responsibility, leadership and community service turn young men into contributors to the places they call home.
  • Positive Masculinity: Our Positive Masculinity and Responsible Manhood pillar guides boys and young men in building values, attitudes and behaviours that are responsible, respectful and constructive.

Creating a safe and nurturing environment where boys can thrive, realize their potential, and contribute positively to society.
